LIL VEGGIE EATS

Your Guide to Vegetarian Eats

Eating My Way Through New Orleans

I ate tooo good during my recent trip to New Orleans. When I visited when I was younger it could be difficult to find vegetarian food, but now there’s so many options everywhere! Here’s what I ate:

Beignets and the veggie sandwich from Cafe Beignet. I love their Bourbon St. location in the Musical Legends Park.

Some drinks and sushi while attending French Quarter Fest in Jackson Square with my friends.

A madeline and two macaroons from Sucre. I always love visiting this pastel bakery when I’m in town.

These sweet potato waffle fries from Red Dog Diner were the perfect mid-day snack. So crispy and delicious.

Getting drinks and dinner on a patio with friends will always be my favorite. I ordered the Louisiana lemonade, mac n cheese, and green beans from The Original French Market Restaurant and Bar. The perfect southern comfort meal.

A sweet and savory crepe from DeVille Coffee House & Creperie. I ordered a banana and Nutella crepe and built my own savory crepe with brie, avocado, tomato, spinach, and pesto. They have so many ingredients to choose from. Getting one of each really hit the spot.

Hush puppies and the vegetarian pasta from New Orleans Creole Cookery. All these Cajun flavors were the perfect dinner on a lovely patio.

We went to Atchafalaya our last night there, and this is one of my favorite meals I’ve ever eaten in the big easy. Everything was so unique and bursting with flavor. My top plant-based dish was the kale and goat cheese salad which included panko-crusted goat cheese, Ponchatoula strawberries, red onion, and sultanas topped with pepper jelly vinaigrette. I also ordered the harissa spiced cauliflower and fried brussel sprouts roasted in miso-honey, sunflower seed, and mint. Of course I had to try some dessert, so I indulged in the ice cream sundae which was topped with spiced pepita and Mexican chocolate sauce. This sweet treat was perfect on a humid day.

It was lovely to stroll through Audubon Park and gaze at the gorgeous Spanish moss.

I’m already counting down the days until I’m back in this city again to enjoy its unique culture, amazing food, and fun live music.
