KAMA: A Vegetarian’s Heaven in Wicker Park

KAMA definitely lives up to the hype. I’ve gone twice now, and everything is always incredible. This has to be one of the best Indian restaurants in Chicago. Here’s a rundown of everything I’ve tried:

My three favorite appetizers are the Ghee Roasted Cauliflower, Beet and Goat Cheese Salad, and Crispy Chili Potatoes. The flavorful cauliflower includes cumin tempered goat cheese, mint chimichurri, cherry tomatoes, and spiced walnuts. All of these foods mixed together is a creamy dream of spices. The salad features pickled beets, cumin-tempered goat cheese, candied pecans, Frisée mixed greens, and blueberry lemon. This fresh salad tastes great especially when paired with a mango lassi. The crispy chili potatoes are delicious as well, and just how I like them–crispy and spicy on the outside and soft on the inside.

And now for my favorite part–the curries. The three I’ve tried are the Paneer Tikki Masala, Malai Kofka, and Channa and Cauliflower Saag. Their tiki masala includes fresh Roma tomato reduction, fenugreek, and grass fed butter and allows you to choose the protein, channa, chicken, prawns, or lamb. My favorite is definitely the Malai Kofta, which is paneer and potato dumplings in a creamy cashew sauce. I’ve never been a fan of saag dishes, but I did like their Channa and Cauliflower Saag!

All of these curries were great with their basmati rice and garlic naan. Garlic naan is always a must when I visit an Indian restaurant. The meal is not complete without it.

For dessert I’ve tried the Bourbon Gulab Jamun, which is include with Makers Mark and orange zest. These puffy dough balls melted in my mouth with a boozy sweetness that kept me warm on the walk home.

KAMA is a must if you’re visiting Chicago or just looking for a great place to laugh with friends. The atmosphere is cozy and the weight staff is incredible. Make sure to schedule a reservation if you are visiting this restaurant to avoid a long wait!
